More traditional football clubs could join the EU LCS
Rumors suggest that Manchester City and AS Roma might be interested in acquiring the spots of Misfits Academy and Fnatic Academy
As in the past with Schalke 04 or Paris Saint-Germain, more football clubs might be interested in finding a spot in the competitive League of Legends universe, and this time there are numerous rumors pointing that Manchester City and AS Roma could take the leap to the EU LCS.
Although nothing is confirmed, it is possible that this situation could become a reality due to the impossibility of the academies of Misfits and Fnatic to continue playing under the same brand as their parent organizations, which forces them to sell their spot to a new entity in accordance with the European LCS regulations imposed by Riot Games.
Certain moves indicate that Roma and Manchester would be one of the best positioned teams to join the league. Manchester City has repeatedly shown interest in the electronic sports world. The club signed a FIFA player last summer and has also announced on its website that they are looking for an esports manager to expand and create new teams.
On the other hand, AS Roma has also signed FIFA player and has a close relationship with Fnatic, financially supporting the team. However, especifically this relationship with Fnatic could theoretically become a problem for the club to enter the league.
