Former Manchester United star, Wayne Rooney in an interview with the digital platform DAZN, reviewed the election of Real Madrid player Luka Modric as the Ballon d'Or winner. Rooney recognized the virtues of the Croatian but assured he would have given the award to Cristiano Ronaldo, with whom he shared dressing room for six seasons at Old Trafford.

"Modric is a fantastic player; I think he's excellent because of the way he moves the ball, you might not notice it with your eyes, but when you play against him, it's like he's slipping on players."

The Atlanta United players also mention that he does not think Modric is the best player in the world. However, he believes that in term of this year, of course, he is worthy of the prize.

"Luka had a great year with Real Madrid and had an outstanding career as Croatia's captain, but if I have voted for someone this year, I would have done it for Ronaldo, without taking anything from Modric."

Rooney knows the Real Madrid player from his time in London, although the striker doesn't remember Modric as a player to fear when he played against Tottenham, he knows Luke has excellent skills, has a great shot with both feet and he creates a lot of opportunities.
