France Football has published a list of the 30 biggest clubs in world football, with Real Madrid coming top of the pile.

The French magazine ranked clubs using a points system that took into account players, television audience, social-media followers, average attendance, income, expenses, market value and historical importance.

In the process of creating the top 30, France Football rated as many as 85 clubs from across the globe according to these parameters.

Real Madrid edge out arch rivals Barcelona

Madrid - a team regaining form under Santiago Solari after a poor start to the season - were followed closely by rivals Barcelona, who earned just seven points fewer.

The category "historical importance" and the fact that Madrid have won four of the last five Champions League titles were factors that worked firmly in the Bernabéu club's favour.

Five English outfits made the top 10: Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Arsenal. Also among the leaders are Neymar's team, the French club Paris Saint-Germain, who came seventh.
