Weston McKennie won't be available for the game against Chile on Tuesday due to an injury that forced him to leave the match in which the USMNT faced Ecuador, but the worse thing is the injury could probably leave him out for the rest of the season with Schalke 04.

McKennie injury happened in a bad fall where the player disputed the ball in the air with Carlos Gruezo when the American midfielder fall he couldn't put his two feet on the ground, and the left one was in a 90-degree position.

According to the USMNT, McKennie didn't suffer any fracture, which is why the injury was determined as a sprain. After spending the weekend at the US camp, the player went back to Germany on Monday where he will continue with the studies to determine the severity of the injury.

Schalke's version of the injury

The German team reported through their Twitter account that it could be a ruptured ankle ligament. So not only he'll be out for the match against 'La Roja', but it could also put into question the rest of the season; where he was already a starter, and finally he could miss the Gold Cup this summer.

"The American suffered a tear of the external ligaments of the ankle and returns from the USMNT camp to begin his therapy in Gelsenkirchen; he won't be available with Schalke for a while."

Who would take his place with the States?

Cristian Roldan could be the player who takes the place of the Schalke's midfielder since he was the one who took his place in the match against Ecuador and was in charge of that position during the January camp. The 23-year-old Seattle Sounders player faces a unique opportunity in Berhalter's squad.
