Andrés Guardado talked to Univision Deportes about his feelings after being eliminated in the round of 16 against Brazil at the 2018 Russian World Cup, which was his fourth tournament with the Mexican National team.

"When the World Cup was over, and with the frustration of once again being in the same place, of course, it's in your head to leave the National team."

The Mexican also admitted that after a while with a clear mind he analyzed his possible retirement from "El Tri."

"I realized that my present is still good, I'm still playing at a good level, and that's why I understood as long as I can keep helping my team I will be here until they don't want me."

Andrés Guardado has become a constant player since the 2006 Germany World Cup, and in recent years he has been the captain of the Mexican National Team.

'Tata' Martino's era

Andrés Guardo talked too about the new World Cup journey that is about to start with Gerardo Martino as the coach of Mexico, "I want to enjoy this process knowing that maybe these are my last games or years with the National team."

Guardo will be 35 years old at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
