Bayern Munich: Alphonso Davies makes history in Bundesliga
The Canadian starlet scored his first goal for the Bavarians to become the youngest player to score for the German champions in almost 20 years.
Alphonso Davies joined Bayern Munich from the Vancouver Whitecaps during the winter transfer window and made his fifth appearance for Niko Kovac's team in the 6-0 Bundesliga victory over Mainz, during which he scored his debut goal for the club.
Davies climbed from the bench in the 59th minute and scored the sixth and final goal of the game 11 minutes later to seal a resounding victory that returned Bayern to the top of the Bundesliga on goal difference as they remain locked on points with challengers Dortmund.
Davies, 18, made history against Mainz as he became not only the first Canadian to score for the Bundesliga giants but also the first person born this century to hit the net for Bayern and the youngest player to do so in almost 20 years.
International Duty
Davies will join up with the Canada senior side during the international break where the Canucks play French Guinea in qualifying for the 2019-20 CONCACAF Nations League at BC Place in Vancouver, home of Davies’ alma mater the Whitecaps.
Bayern Munich
After the international break, the Bavarians will play Freiburg as they attempt to keep their noses ahead in the Bundesliga and FC Heidenheim in the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal.
