This Friday, FIFA Executive Council will vote for a Club World Cup with 24 teams prior to 2022 Qatar World Cup, a vote than can go ahead as Infantino has the support of five of the six continental confederations.

The new competition would take place between June 17 and July 4, where the Champions League and Europa League would provide the champions of the last four season having eight teams total, South America will have six teams while Africa, Asia, and CONCACAF would have three teams each for one representative from Oceania. However, if the same team is champion more than once during the four years of each period, it would be replaced by the following one in the ranking of each continental confederation.

The tournament will have a format of eight groups of three teams, where the eight winners would advance to the quarterfinals. FIFA estimates that this new competition can leave almost a billion euros in revenue, already having interest from the Japanese bank Softbank.

UEFA

The president of the European confederation is the only one against the new project, as he defends the interests of the European Club Association, which believes that the new tournament will add pressure and games to its players, and also sees it as a clear competition for the Champions League.

Although Ceferin knows he's a minority and the war is practically lost, but is satisfied by reducing the 12 to eight teams from Europe and make sure the tournament's played between June and July, as the Mundialito de Clubes, will still be played in December, otherwise would attack the Champions League, Europa League and the European club calendar directly.
