Gran Athletic en Moscú. El conjunto de Ziganda se mostró muy superior al Spartak y logró un triunfo que le deja muy cerca de los octavos de final. El primer tiempo resultó determinante. Aduriz, por partida doble, y Mikel Rico sacudieron la eliminatoria y casi acabaron con cualquier esperanza del equipo local. Luiz Adriano maquilló el resultado tras el descanso.

El Athletic sonríe en Europa mientras pasa tiempos difíciles en LaLiga. El empate último contra Las Palmas no gustó en La Catedral y trastocó todavía más la confianza de la afición en Ziganda. Analgésico europeo en Moscú.
