He's back! Cristiano Ronaldo returns for first day of training
The Portuguese star was seen in the gym on his first official day back from vacation as he aims to his accelerate his recovery from injury in time for the new La Liga season
Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Real Madrid’s Sport City on Wednesday to officially begin his first day of the new season, and was joined by his Portugal teammate Pepe in the gym.
Having returned from his extended vacation, Ronaldo was seen doing leg weights and running exercises, as he continues to recover from the injury to his left knee that he sustained in the Euro 2016 final last month.
While the rest of the Real Madrid team enjoyed a day off on return from Norway – where they overcame Sevilla to win the European Super Cup on Tuesday night – coach Zinedine Zidane joined both Cristiano and Pepe at Valdebedas to greet the players and oversee their training.
Ronaldo's race to be fit for La Liga's opening games
Gareth Bale and Toni Kroos were also at the Valdebedas centre to continue their mini preseason after missing the tour to North America. It is still unclear, meanwhile, when Real Madrid expect Cristiano Ronaldo to return. As things stand, he is set to miss his side's opening La Liga fixture against Real Sociedad on August 21.
