Putintseva lays into coach in courtside rant: "Are you stupid?"

Heated words were exchanged during a break in Yulia Putintseva's First Round meeting with Alizé Cornet at the Connecticut Open yesterday. After losing the third game in the first set, Putintseva ushered over her coach Roman Kislyanskiy then gave him a bizarre ticking off which was caught by television cameras.

Putintseva: Are you stupid?

Roman Kislyanskiy: What’s the matter with you?

Putintseva: With me? You never applaud when I win a point. You’re sat there watching videos about the world being flat.

Kislyanskiy: Have you gone mad?

Putintseva: You’re the one who’s crazy. I have a long game to get through and you’re sat there not encouraging me.

Kislyanskiy: She made a mistake.

Putintseva: Her team applauds every time I make a mistake, and you should be doing the same for me.

Kislyanskiy: And what are you going to do out there on court if I am applauding you? Have you got any kind of plan?

Putintseva: Just go and sit down. I don’t even know why you have bothered coming here.

Kislyanskiy: You need to be nearer to the ball. You’re playing too far back. You are waiting for the ball too much instead of moving towards it. You need to play shorter and move in to the net to play the drop shot. Do you need anything else?

Putintseva: Go and watch your videos.

Kislyanskiy: I’ll ask you again. Do you need anything else?

Putintseva: What are you doing here? Can you tell me?

Kislyanskiy: I came here with you and I’ll tell you why I came. Why have you called me over?

Putintseva: Take that f*cking smile off your face!

Kislyanskiy: Right, well at least we’ve got that clear…
