Kobe Bryant reveals why he retired

The LA Laker legend opened up about the reasoning behind his decision to call it a day on his playing career: "My focus started shifting towards 'what comes next?'"

Kobe Bryant, the recently retired LA Laker legend, was one of the keynote speakers at the Milken Institute’s ‘Changing the World in Innovative Ways’ event.

The five-time NBA champion and two-time Olympic gold medallist revealed some of the reasons behind his decision to call it quits on a twenty-year-long playing career.

“I stopped playing because I just didn’t want to do it anymore. I think it was just part of my evolution, it was like I wanted to move onto something else. My passion and my focus started shifting towards what comes next instead of being completely obsessed with the game itself. I had that inner conflict about walking away from the game. It had nothing to do with scoring 60 or 50 points per game”
