En la edición anterior, en 2021, miles de imágenes fueron sometidas a juicio por un jurado compuesto por 52 expertos de la industria de la fotografía en todo el mundo. El título de Ganador General fue para Will Saunders, con su impresionante imagen de un escalador cayendo en Utah, Estados Unidos.

Desde que se anunció la selección de las 250 mejores imágenes para la edición de 2023, la comunidad creativa ha esperado con anticipación, y finalmente se han revelado las cinco mejores de cada categoría. Entre los relatos detrás de las imágenes, destaca la presencia de los españoles Alex Berasategi, Álvaro Herrero López-Beltrán, Sergi Hernández López, Victor de Valles Ibáéz, Sebastian Porral y Yhabril; el hispanoaustraliano Timothy John Parrant; los chilenos Gonzalo Robert Parraguez y Juan García Prieto; y el colombiano Kevin Molano.

El clímax de Red Bull Illume 2023 llegará con la Ceremonia de entrega de premios, que se llevará a cabo del 28 al 30 de noviembre en Sölden, donde se otorgarán los galardones a los ganadores de las 10 categorías, así como al Ganador General. Las 50 mejores imágenes se exhibirán en paneles luminosos de 2x2 metros en Sölden hasta el 21 de diciembre.

La exposición se embarcará en una gira que comenzará en Berlín del 1 al 3 de diciembre y continuará en Hangar-7 en Salzburgo del 13 de diciembre al 4 de febrero de 2024. Luego, estas imágenes extraordinarias viajarán por todo el mundo para iluminar y cautivar a audiencias globales.
