Lopetegui: "I'm very sad, let's hope we win the World Cup"

Former Spain coach Julen Lopetegui spoke briefly to reporters in Krasnodar before boarding a flight back home from Russia. The coach, who was sacked by the RFEF earlier today after it was confirmed he would be taking the Real Madrid post, didn't answer all of the questions concerning his dismissal - such as whether he felt Luis Rubiales' decision to sack him was fair.

Lopetegui "very sad" about being sacked before the World Cup

When asked how he was feeling, a visibly affected Lopetegui replied: “I’m very sad but hoping that we can win the World Cup”.The 51-year-old had little more to say other than to wish La Roja well during the finals: "My message is: ‘We have a magnificent team and hopefully we can go on to win the World Cup’ but I can’t say any more than that”.
