Violence in Lyon: fights in the stands and a pitch invasion

The Europa League game between Lyon and Besiktas was marred by scenes of violence before kick-off, which ended up being delayed 45 minutes.

The Europa League game between Lyon and Besiktas was delayed for 45 minutes after violence broke out between fans. 

Pitch invasion at Lyon-Besiktas

After various incidents at the entrances to the stadium, missiles were thrown inside the ground, leading to fans flooding onto the pitch. The Lyon president had to go onto the turf to appeal for calm and ask the fans to return to their seats. 

The match eventually kicked-off 45 minutes late.
