Swarm of bees stops football match in Ecuador

The Ecuadorian Serie A match between River Plate and Aucas was suspended yesterday after a swarm of bees invaded the stadium. Unlike the moth invasion at the Euro 2016 final between Portugal and France, this swarm did have a sting in its tail, sending players and fans scurrying for safety.

River Plate, from Guayaquil, are currently in 10th spot in the league (in its first phase - the winners of the first phase play the winners of the second phase to determine the champion), with Aucas, from the capital Quito, one place lower in 11th, just one off the bottom of the 12 team table. Barcelona are top of the league.
