“I’m proud of my players. We deserved more”
Zidane in his post-match press conference: “I didn’t foresee us dropping two points here but that’s football for you. If you don’t put your chances away, that’s what happens”.
Zinedine Zidane seemed happy with the effort put in by his players but was dumbfounded by the result at the Benito Villamarin: “Perhaps we were slow getting out of the traps. I knew the opening fifteen minutes would be difficult and going behind put us on the back foot. But after that we deserved much more given the way we played. That’s football though; when you have chances you have to put them away. We lacked a bit of good fortune”.
Not starting with Carvajal: “He came on in the second half. He didn’t start the match because Danilo did, that’s all there is to it. I’m happy with Carvajal and how he played in the other two games. Today Danilo started and also played very well. We have a very big squad and I’m always going to make changes”.
Disappointed?: “No, we’re going to continue working as before, we’re on the right track. We have to take the positives from this. We dropped two points and that’s a setback but we have to remember that there is still plenty of time to go and the fight for the La Liga title will go down to the wire”.

Fitness levels: “I thought the team looked better today. Best of all they looked fitter towards the end of the match, in the second half. We’re into our third week together and we’re going to continue working. I’m extremely proud of how my players performed tonight, the only thing missing was picking up an additional two points”.
James’ performance: “I told him he needed to move around, not just on the wing but also cutting inside. I’m very happy with his performance, today was his first start and I’m delighted with him”.
Not making all three subs: “I made two changes, that’s it. That’s just how it is, the team were playing well and I wanted them to continue like that until the end of the game”.

Betis: “I was expecting Betis to play like they did. Their goal was spectacular. The Betis fans get behind their team and they played well”.
Did he expect to drop two points?: “No, but that’s football for you. If you don’t put your chances away that can happen. I didn’t expect this result, but after the performance of my players I can’t be angry with anyone”.
