With 14 goals Borja Bastón is making his case to play for Atlético
The Eibar striker is now the top scoring Spaniard in La Liga and is contracted to return to the Madrid club after his loan spell at Ipurua.
Borja Bastón’s hot streak in front of goal is showing no signs of slowing up. The Eibar striker bagged a brace at San Mamés today (his side’s only goals in a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Athletic Club), bringing his tally to 14 in La Liga. The Atlético youth academy graduate, who is currently on loan at the Basque outfit, is the top scoring Spaniard in the division, and only trails behind Cristiano, Neymar, Benzema and Suárez on the overall list of most lethal marksmen.
With Atlético preparing themselves for an imminent registration ban, the eleven players currently on loan at other clubs could now play an important role for Los Rojiblancos next season. Especially Bastón, a proven goal scorer at a time when the Madrid team is lacking firepower in attack.
It remains to be seen what Atlético decide to do with Bastón: bring him back to the Calderón and make him a prominent figure in Simeone’s team or sell him to one of the many suitors that will undoubtedly be lining up to avail of the 23-year-old's services?
