Suárez turns 29: 54 goals and 38 assists for Barça
Barça sent their birthday best wishes to the Uruguayan via the hashtag #suarez29 on social media.
Barcelona marked Luis Suárez's 29th birthday with the hash tag #Suarez29. The striker’s 29th birthday brings some impressive stats with it: in 73 official matches as a Barça striker he has scored 54 goals and provided 38 assists. The Uruguayan clearly took a while to find his feet in his first season with Los Culés, particularly after the FIFA ban that prevented him from playing until 26 October. His debut came in a baptism of fire in the Bernabeú, but it wasn’t until January that his season really took off.
Suárez spoke to fcbarcelona.com this week, an interview in which he stated Barça's goals for the season: “We are aware that winning a second consecutive Champions League is not easy because nobody has done it. It’s a challenge to keep winning things and because we are the best team in the world, we want to continue winning.”
He also heaped praised on team-mate Leo Messi, whose second-half scissor-kick gave Barça a hard-fought three points against Málaga to send them to the top of the table, if only for 24 hours. “Everyone knows what I think about Leo, he is the best in the world and out there on the field he inspires pure admiration, off it he is very calm and relaxed. As a team-mate he treated me just like the others from the first day and that has helped me a lot.”
