With Zidane, the Bernabéu will get behind Madrid - Lucas Pérez
The Depor forward feels that Madrid will be just as motivated as they would have been had Benítez not been sacked.
Lucas Pérez believes that there will be no noticeable difference in Real Madrid‘s motivation levels when the two teams meet on Saturday – just days after Zinedine Zidane replaced Rafa Benítez on the Madrid bench. “With a new coach, they will be going flat out, to show that they have a place in the side and they’ll be keen to win. But they would have done exactly the same under Benítez – for their recent results and because the Bernabéu demands a lot given Real Madrid’s grandeur. With Zidane, they have the support of the Bernabéu, and that will benefit them”, the forward said.
Like many football fans in Spain, the 27-year-old clearly remembers watching Zidane during the Frenchman’s playing days: “What can you say about him? He was one of the best players in history. I have a great admiration for players like him”.
But, added Lucas Pérez, the team’s top scorer, Depor will not be going into the game as victims: “We compete at every ground – big or small. Depor stood up to Barça at Camp Nou, we gave a good account at Mestalla… we have the same emntality whatever stadium we are playing in. It’s just another game, there are three points up for grabs and we’ll be going out there to give a good image”.
Fede Cartabia on the cards
It appears that Víctor will finally be able to count on Fede Cartabia for the Madrid match The Argentine suffered a sprained ankle against Villarreal but has returned to train as normal. Cani, however, continues to work apart and is almost certain to be ruled out.
