City unveil new club crest for the 2016/17 season
Manchester City took advantage of the Boxing Day fixtures to reveal the design of their new club badge, inspired by classic club emblems of the past.
Manchester City will be sporting a new club crest of their shirt from next season. The Premier League side took advantage of the Boxing Day fixtures to reveal the design of their new club badge, which take inspiration from classic club emblems of the past – an updated version of that wore on the team’s shirt up until the early 1970s.
The new crest was elected by fans who voted to return to the circular design with the gold ship, three stripes representing the rivers Irwell, Irk and Medlock, a red Lancashire rose and the year of the club’s foundation, the central elements in the new badge.
The design got the seal of approval from goalkeeper Joe Hart, who said: “I’m really looking forward to wearing it; it’s something new. This is what I love about this club and the journey I have been on since I’ve been here. There have always been new and exciting things and every one of them positive. It’s no different with this badge. I think it’s great.”
