The Guardian votes Messi as the world’s best player of 2015
The Argentinean was chosen ahead of Cristiano and club team mates Neymar and Luis Suárez. Iniesta, in 12th, is the first Spanish player in the list.
FC Barcelona’s Leo Messi has been voted as the Guardian’s best player in the world during 2015. Messi finished ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and club team mates Neymar and Luis Suárez. The Guardian’s panel of 123 experts from 49 countries selected their top 100 players of the year; Messi gained 4,873 points with 91 members of the panel putting him top of their own selections.
Cristiano came in second with 4,620 points - only eight panel members put the Madrid No.7 top of their lists.
Just behind Cristiano were Messi’s team mates Neymar (4,582) and Luis Suárez (4,492) making it a top-five finish for the 'MSN' with Bayern Munich striker coming in at number 5. There were no Spanish players in the top 10 this year but Barça’s Andrés Iniesta finished the highest out of all of them in the 100, ending 12th.
