Real Zaragoza have sacked manager Ranko Popovic, assistant manager Vlado Grujic, and Martín González from the post of sporting director. The club made the announcement on Sunday morning after the Maños' 3-1 home loss against Gimnástic on Saturday. Zaragoza hope to persuade former Deportivo manager Fernando Vázquez to take over at the club.
"The board of administrators of Real Zaragoza has reached an agreement to terminate the contract of manager Ranko Popovic, and assistant manager Vlado Grujic. The club wishes to thank the technical staff for the work they carried out, while also highlighting their professional and human qualities. Real Zaragoza wishes them all success in their future professional endeavours," the club said in a statement.
Popovic had taken the side through an up and down run so far this season in Segunda, picking up seven wins, six draws and five defeats in 18 games. However, Zaragoza currently lie in sixth in the division – the final playoff place -- and six points behind leaders Alavés.
