CHAMPIONS LEAGUE | REAL MADRID | BENÍTEZ
"Lucas Vázquez? Some players listen and grow" - Benítez
Real Madrid’s coach confirmed that Sergio Ramos won’t be in the list for the Malmö game but could return against Villarreal.
Rafa Benítez joined Nacho Fernández in attending the international press to look ahead to tomorrow’s Champions League MD6 meeting with Malmö.
The team’s performance levels drop in the second half of matches: “The analysis of the last two games is not the same. We’ve won four games and played well in all of them. It’s not easy to always maintain the same intensity. Against Getafe, it was difficult to manage the game when you know that you have other games coming up. That was one of our best first-half performances of the season and we’ll have to try to repeat it”.
Sergio Ramos: “He’s feeling much better but he’s not in the list for tomorrow’s match. We’re not ruling out the chance that he could return against Villarreal”.
Rotation time: “This is the moment for us to rotate the squad – but with the intention of winning the match. We want to win this game but also alternate a few positions so that the team is fresh for the Villarreal game”.
New faces in the list: "A lot of the players who’ve been out injured are returning and they’ll need to start building up rhythm. I'm sorry, there's no place for the younger players tomorrow, only Marcos Llorente is in the list, although I don’t consider him to be a reserve team player because he’s always with us. We are delighted with Martin Ødegaard and how he is working but this is a game we have to win".
The club’s appeal in the Cheryshev case: “We still believe that we are in the right and we trust the decision that will be made by the courts”.
Will Cheryshev play tomorrow?: “He doesn’t usually play very much so there’s no need to say whether he will play or not; there are players of a higher level in front of him. He just has to continue working”.
Bale at left-back: “We have players who can play in many different positions. He could be one of options, but it’s not our objective”.
Lucas Vázquez: “There are a group of players who are working hard and there’s no need to give them any messages. There are players who train well, listen to what you tell them and grow as players”.
Lewandowski: “In press conferences before a Champions League game, we don’t talk about about the transfer market; we have an important match to focus on”.
The ‘MSN’ vs.the ‘BBC’: “It’s not fair on the rest of the players to single out the three forwards. We have a very good team with players of a very high level. The three names that everybody talks about (the ‘BBC’) are exceptional players. At the moment, for various reasons they haven’t been able to play together too often; we’ll see how they perform and I hope they do as well as they did the other day against Getafe”.
Benzema: "Benzema’s a player who has good movement and a lot of quality. He makes the others in attack play better".
