Rayo Vallecano player, Patrick Ebert has torn his Achilles tendon.
The club confirmed early fears this evening in a succinct communique issued on their home page.
“After a medical review by club doctors, results confirm that Patrick Ebert has torn his Achilles tendon".
The club offered no prognosis on how long the German player would miss but given recuperation periods for an injury of this nature, he will play no role in the current season.
Ebert was injured in a fall after clearing the ball with a header in his box. He came off after the incident, which occurred just after the 20 minute mark. He’s undergoing medical tests to determine the extent of the injury.
Villarreal meanwhile suffered two injuries, with both Jonathan dos Santos and Jaume Costa unable to finish the game. Jonathan, despite initial fears, only suffered a mild strain. Costa however has at the very least a fairly serious ankle sprain, suffered in a fall near the end of the match.
