Mascherano agrees to pay tax authorities 816,000 euros
According to Cadena SER, the Argentinean has reached an agreement with the Inland Revenue to avoid being punished for tax evasion.
According to Cadena SER radio, the Spanish tax authorities and Javier Mascherano have come to a settlement, in agreement with State lawyers, regarding charges of tax evasion for the period of two fiscal years. The prosecution has accepted Mascherano’s offer to pay an 816,000 euro fine which constitutes 40% of the penalty charges for the first offence (235,000 euros) and 60% of the fine for the second (581,000 euros). Furthermore, prison sentences of four months and eight will apply; however, these sentences go not require the player to serve time in jail under Spanish law. In general, in Spain, prison sentences under two years do not require jail time to be served.
