UKRAINE - SPAIN | MOURINHO
Mourinho’s reconnaissance mission in Kiev
The Chelsea coach travelled to Kiev to watch his own players and also Dynamo Kyiv’s seven internationals.
José Mourinho made the most of the international break to travel to Kiev and watch Ukraine’s final Group C qualifier against Spain. The Chelsea manager was spotted before the game at the Hilton hotel, where the Spain squad is staying. Spanish journalist Alfredo Martínez was one of the first to cross paths with the Portuguese manager who greeted those present but didn’t want to make any declarations.
The motive for the trip was to follow the Chelsea players in action at the Olympic stadium (Cesc, Pedro and Azpilicueta) as well as to take notes on the seven Dynamo Kyiv players in the Ukraine side – Kravets, Sydorchuk, Rybalka, Kacheridi and particularly Yarmolenko – who Chelsea are rumoured to have an interest in.
Chelsea will face Dynamo Kyiv at the same venue on 20 October in MatchDay 3 of the Champions League and Mou is leaving nothing to chance.
