LA LIGA | VILLAREAL
Villareal top of la Liga, Soldado to make a roja return?
The yellow submarine has surfaced on top of Spain's primera división for the first time in 16 seasons led by a resurgent Roberto Soldado.
Better than just the feel-good factor of seeing the club top of the league, Villareal are challenging the big clubs and leaving their rivals behind. With sixteen points and sitting pretty on the top of the pile, they are ahead of Athletic on 13, Sevilla on 11 and Valencia on 7.
The team is playing with a real hunger and have found a red-hot partnership up front with Soldado and Baptistao exceeding all expectations. Their understanding is winning them points.
The Brazilian striker, on loan from Atlético, scored the match winner after 13 minutes against his own club.He had one effort on goal, and that single shot resolved the encounter
"I'm really happy with the goal, it was pay-off for all the hard work the team put in. Soldado was really quick in the build up to the goal and I connected well with the shot", said the young Brazilian afterthe match.
Soldado's reconquest of la Liga has been a revelation, he has two goals and three assists already and gave Godín a torrid night in Villareal.
He looks like he's back to his best and don't forget that even though he hasn't played in la roja of Spain since 2013, he is the no.9 with the best strike rate under Del Bosque. He scored 7 goals in 537 minutes, a goal every 76'. Villa scored every 98' and Costa the current starter in the striking role scores one every 662'
We may not have seen the last of Soldado in Spain's iconic roja shirt.
