Benítez: "There’s no debate, Cristiano’s the best in the world"

The Real Madrid coach praised his team after the 4-0 win: “Without being brilliant, we created chances and took them”.

Injuries: “Bale felt a spasm in his calf and we’ll have to wait one or two days to know what the extent of the injury is. Ramos and Varane took knocks; I’m more optimistic about those two. With Bale, we’ll have to wait”

Kovacic: “We brought him on to help us manage the midfield when both full-backs advanced up the pitch. If Bale is not fit, there’ll be a place open for the rest. He was given his chance to play today for the characteristics of our opponents but in future games it might be Jesé, Cheryshev or Lucas Vázquez”.

Shakhtar: “It was a difficult game. They manage the ball well and like to maintain possession and that makes it complicated when we have to defend. They have players who are skilful and quick. Controlling them wasn’t easy. But despite that we did create chances on goal without playing particularly brilliantly. I’m happy that we were able to make the most of the opportunities we did get and not concede any. The only downside was the injuries”.

Injury problems a concern during the season: “I’m not worried because we haven’t had many injuries. Today, two players took knocks but physically, the team is looking very healthy”.

Cristiano: “The only thing which does surprise me is all of the hubbub that’s made about him, instead of talking about what he does out on the pitch. There is no debate, he’s the best in the world and I hold him in the highest esteem”.
