REAL MADRID | LUCAS SILVA
Lucas Silva: "I want to do well in Marseille and return to Madrid"
The Brazilian tells Globoesporte that his sole objective is to put in a good season on loan and win his place with Real Madrid.
Lucas Silva is eager to demonstrate his qualities during his year-long loan at Olympique de Marseille so that he can return to Real Madrid next summer a better, and more experienced player.
Real Madrid exit: There were several clubs who expressed an interest but Real Madrid wanted to loan me out without the option to buy. Not everyone was in agreement about that clause but Olympique accepted. It’s a great club, which gets a lot of coverage outside of France. The main thing is that I will be participating in a great team. My objective is to play and gain a European-style rhythm to my game.
Reason for choosing Marseille: The coach (Michel) was key. He explained a lot of things to me – that I was needed to help the team and I told him that I would like to be given the opportunity to play and show what I am capable of. I hope to put in a great season.
Madrid experience: I had opportunities to play when I first arrived, and I think I did well. But later I lost my place. I think that was more a decision which the coach had made. I’d only just arrived from Brazil, I hadn’t completed a pre-season, I was adapting to a new style of football and a different country. But I think it was important for me to go to Madrid. The experience of the last six months was positive. With the new technical team (Rafa Benítez) I couldn’t stay because I haven’t got a Spanish passport. Benítez which me good luck in Marseille and told me his thoughts on the matter. When I return, I will have a good opportunity to prove myself and show what I can do.
Developing at Madrid: I feel different – more mature and more settled. But I still have a lot of growing to do; I need to evolve and get accustomed to the rhythm of the European game, think and react faster. I think I’m on the right path.
Objectives: To put in a good season in France, grow as a player, go to the Olympics and return to Real Madrid.
