Betis preparing carnival atmosphere for La Real visit
Pepe Mel will begin preparing for Saturday’s game against Real Sociedad tomorrow; Joaquín and Van der Vaart, the verdiblanco attractions.
Betis return to the training ground tomorrow to begin preparing for the third game of the new season with the hope of registering their first win. During the mini-break, Pepe Mel has closed his squad with the additions of Joaquín and Ricky van Wolfswinkel
Saturday’s visit from Real Sociedad will be the focus of this week’s work and Mel has programmed a double session for his 28-man squad in which just centre-back Germán Pezzella is set to miss through injury.
The Madrid-born coach has already devised a number of variants to his system to be able to introduce recent arrivals Joaquín and van Wolfswinkel – both of whom he will want to get fully integrated as soon as possible. Rafael van der Vaart meanwhile could be handed his first debut run-out - injury forced him to miss the opening two matches
Mel also wants the Benito Villamarín to be a festival of colour for the Basque side’s visit and will make a call to arms to supporters to fill the stadium for a match they need to win. His team lie third from bottom after one draw and one defeat.
