Asier Illarramendi arrived in San Sebastián early on Wednesday morning to undergo a medical ahead of completing his move back to Real Sociedad from Real Madrid.
Illarramendi did not prove to be a loquacious interviewee at Hondarribia airport, where reporters were waiting for a quote or two.
Illarramendi said that La Real was his first choice if he had to leave Real Madrid and that he was “happy” to be back at his former club, where he came through the ranks.
Asked if he had spoken to his teammates, Illarramendi said he hadn’t but would do so “later.”
Although neither cub has made an official statement over the transfer, it is expected that it will be finalized today and Illarramendi could be presented this afternoon.
The transfer fee is believed to be in the region of 17 million euros plus add-ons. Real Madrid paid La Real a little over 32 million euros for Illarramendi two years ago.
