Denis Cheryshev could become a Valencia player by the end of the week. Cadena COPE was first to report on conversations between Real Madrid and Valencia and AS can confirm that both clubs were in contact over the weekend and also that Jorge Mendes has been involved in the operation to either buy the winger outright or take him on loan.
Cheryshev was spotted recently at the Bernabéu offices together with his agent, Ginés Carvajal. At the time, Real Madrid told the player that Rafa Benítez was counting on him remaining with the first team squad. But the 24-year-old faces an almost impossible task of gaining regular minutes in the current set-up and is considering moving on as long as he plays regularly. Villarreal, where Cheryshev spent last season on loan, are keen to take him back but it seems that Valencia might have beaten them to it.
Jorge Mendes, who has a close working relationship with Valencia owner Peter Lim, is believed to be involved in talks with Real Madrid, and the operation could be concluded in the next few days. Benítez decided to leave Cheryshev out of his list for yesterday’s league opener at Sporting.
The operation to seal Cheryshev’s transfer to Valencia would be speeded up if Sofiane Feghouli finally completes his switch to Fenerbahçe. Last week, Nuno admitted that the Algerian could be about to move on. If that happens, his place will be taken by Cheryshev.
Apart from interest from Villarreal, Cheryshev was also waiting for an offer from Liverpool which didn’t materialize. The player himself told Marcelino that he would be playing the new season with Madrid. Villarreal were willing to break the bank for the Russia international and were prepared to include a buy-back clause in the deal. The ‘Yellow Submarine’ would be surprised to say the least, to see him end up with their regional rivals.
