Official: Soldado completes 3-year Villarreal switch
The deal between Villarreal and Tottenham was closed on Friday. The striker could make his debut in Gijón tomorrow.
Villarreal have announced the signing of Roberto Soldado, who joins on a three-year deal from Tottenham Hotspur after the two clubs reached an agreement on Friday afternoon.
The operation for the Spain international was completed for 10 million euros – far from the 17 million figure which had been mentioned in transfer mill rumours, or the 15 million fee Spurs were believed to be holding out for.
Soldado joins the Castellón-based outfit after two seasons in North London during which he failed to reproduce the kind of form he had previously shown at Valencia.
The striker could make his debut tomorrow - he's in the list for the friendly with Liga BBVA newcomers Sporting de Gijón at El Molinón. Soldado will be officially unveiled on Monday in Vila-real and not in towns close to the city, as was the case with other players who joined over the summer.
Villarreal squad list for the Sporting game:
Goalkeepers: Areola and Barbosa.
Defenders: Rukavina, Mario, Jokic, Jaume Costa, Pablo Íñiguez, Eric Bailly, Víctor Ruiz and Pantic.
Midfielders: Pina, Bruno, Trigueros, Samu Castillejo, Espinosa, Alfonso, Nahuel, Rodri and Iván Alejo.
Forwards: Soldado, Léo Baptistão and Jonathan Pereira.
