The former Zaragoza coach is set to be named as new head of youth at Real Madrid. The 54-year-old was part of Cuatro's commentary team for Madrid's match against Valerenga and he spoke of two of the club's current youngsters.
Víctor Fernández was part of Cuatro’s commentary team for Real Madrid’s televised match against Valerenga on Sunday. The experienced coach is set to be the new head of Madrid’s youth set-up, something noted by fellow commentator José Antonio Luque, who said: “With us is Víctor Fernández, who will soon be officially in charge of Real Madrid’s youth system.”
The former Zaragoza coach did not have a lot of words of praise for Madrid’s performance but did give his thoughts on Marco Asensio: “He is a player with a bright future. I really like him because of the quality he has and the resources he has as a player.”
Luque also asked the coach about one of the jewels of Valdebebas, Borja Mayoral: “He’s a guy who enjoyed a great part in Spain’s European U19 Championships. He has an eye for goal, good link-up player and everyone has great confidence in him.”
The 54-year-old is expected to be officially appointed to his new role at Madrid in the coming days.
