Fans go crazy for Torres on Atlético's arrival in Japan

Los Colchoneros arrived in Japan at 14:00 local time (07:00 CET). Torres was the player who caused most excitement amongst the fans waiting at the airport.

Atlético Madrid have arrived in Japan. Los Colchoneros landed at around 14:00 local time (07:00 CET) and travelled to Saga, where they will be based. Around 300 fans waited for the team at the airport and Fernando Torres was the star attraction. “El Niño” sent the gathered fans crazy and they all attempted to get an autograph from their idol. “Welcome Torres” read one banner. Fans even wore this season’s shirt with Torres’ name on the back. “He’s very handsome,” said one fan. Another had a book about Torres’ life with him. One fan screamed for “Cholo” Simeone.

Atlético were greeted at the airport by a bouquet of flowers. Gabi, Raúl García, Moyá and Torres accepted the gift.

The group travelled straight to their hotel and in the afternoon will hold their first training session in Saga, where the weather is sweltering. Simeone’s side will play their first friendly match against Sagan Tosu. From the welcome, it’s clear that Torres is a big attraction in Asia.
