Jackson, Godín, Giménez, Filipe and Jiménez miss Asia tour
Diego Simeone has taken a squad of 22 players to Asia today but some key men are absent.
At 8:30 (CET) Atlético Madrid took to the training pitch following last night’s friendly victory over Oviedo. At 12:00, “Cholo” Simeone’s squad started their trip to Japan to begin their Asian tour, which will see them take on Japanese team Sagan Tosu and Chinese side SIPG Shanghai. This morning’s session was a recovery session and the first 15 minutes were open for the press.
There were 27 players involved in the session, several of them coming from the second team, including Xu Xin, Iván Pérez, Bernabé and Samu Villa.
The players who played in the Copa América (Godín, Giménez, Raúl Jiménez and Jackson) were not present, although Filipe Luis held a press conference at 12:00 on his return to the club from Chelsea.
After stretching exercises, the players were split into two groups. The players who started at Oviedo yesterday (Juanfran, Savic, Lucas, Siqueira, Tiago, Gabi, Koke, Carrasco, Vietto and Griezmann) took part in rondo exercises. After that they took part in running excercises.
The rest of the squad played a practice match in a small space, where the older players played against a young homegrown side.
