Filipe Luis: “I’ll fight to keep making history with Atleti”
The Madrid club officially announced the return of the player from Chelsea.
Atlético Madrid have officially announced the return of Filipe Luis, confirming what had been well known for several days. The Brazilian signs for the Spanish club for four years, with Atleti paying Chelsea 16 million euros for the player’s services.
“As of today I’m a Atlético Madrid player again. Let me take the opportunity to thank all the Chelsea family (fans, players, coaching staff, etc) for the great year I had with them, and of course Atlético Madrid for their great effort in bringing me back to the club. I’d also like to thank the Atlético Madrid fans for the support and love they’ve shown me over the entire year and especially in recent days. Now I’m only concerned with putting myself at the orders of the ‘gaffer’ and to start working with the team and fighting to keep making history with Atlético Madrid. Thank you to everyone!” the player published on his website.
Filipe Luis left Atleti for 25 million euros in the summer of 2014, and returns after a difficult year under Mourinho where he only played 20 games, though the team won the Premier League.
Filipe Luis originally joined Atleti in 2010, from Deportivo. He played 184 games in his first spell with the club. He was the side’s left back during the golden spell where the club won the Liga, the Copa del Rey, a Europa League and two European Super Cups.
The club’s sporting director, José Luis Pérez Caminero said: “We all know Filipe Luis. We’re strengthening the side with one of the most talented left-backs in the world. He already knows our club and our way of playing so he will adapt straight away.”
