La Real renew Hervías and offload Finnbogason
The Iceland international will spend the new season on loan at Olympiacos. The Greek club reserves an option to buy for 7M euros.
Alfred Finnbogason will spend the new season in the Greek Superleague. The Iceland international will begin a year-long loan at Olympiacos, providing he passes a medical revision in Athens, after Real Sociedad, the player and the Greek side reached an agreement on Friday. La Real coach David Moyes feels there is no place in his team for Finnbogason, who contributed just four goals (two in the league and two in the Cup) since the Scottish manager arrived in San Sebastián. The Basque club hope to recoup some of the 7.5M euro fee they paid Heerenveen for the striker last summer by including a clause which will allow Olympiacos to buy the player for 7 million wuros at the end of his loan. Finnbogason had been close to joining PAOK until negotiations broke down.
Moyes has been more impressed by youth team product Pablo Herviás who signed a contract extension with Real Sociedad on the same day that they announced Finnbogason’s departure. The 22-year-old, who would have been able to leave on a free next year, has committed until June 2018.
Moyes has been looking for a player who can spruce up the team’s attack and resolve La Real’s goal scoring issues. The club plans to bring in one forward before the inscription period closes and are studying two players who know LaLiga well – Joel Campbell and Elche’s Jonathas de Jesus, who impressed when the two sides met in April.
