Christian Stuani is set to leave Espanyol for Middlesbrough. The sale of the Catalan club’s second top scorer from last season (after Sergio García, who has also left the club this summer) is expected to be finalised on Monday or Tuesday. ‘Boro’, coached by Aitor Karanka, will pay €3 million but Espanyol will only receive €300,000.
This is because half of the player’s rights belong to Reggina, so they will receive €1.5 million. Espanyol also owed €1.2 million to the Italian club after signing the striker in 2012. Therefore, the club will avoid a potential transfer ban regarding the complaints from the Italian club to FIFA. Espanyol president Joan Collet travelled to Val d'Aran on Saturday to watch his team cruise to a 17-0 friendly victory against the home team.
