Manchester United have a clear target if Real Madrid sign David de Gea. As AS revealed on June 12, Atlético Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is top of their list of replacements. The Premier League club have already had initial contact with Atleti to ask about the goalkeeper and the response was short and to the point: he will only leave if the €45 million release clause is met.
Van Gaal is a huge fan of Oblak, so much so that he considers him to be an even better prospect than De Gea. If United get the €35 million they want for the Spaniard they will invest it in the 22-year-old Slovenian (De Gea is already 24), who joined Atlético last season. Hugo Lloris was another option for the Dutch coach (who still hopes to hang on to De Gea) but he will stay with Tottenham Hotspur.
As far as Oblak is concerned, when United asked about his situation the goalkeeper told the English club that to move to England United need to arrive at an agreement with Atlético, where he feels he is very happy after the great end to the season that he enjoyed. The problem for Atlético would be if United only sell De Gea to Madrid at the end of the transfer window and tempt Oblak with an irresistable offer after meeting his release clause.Atleti still currently have Miguel Moyà as part of their squad.
