Gaizka Garitano to take over as coach at Valladolid
The former Eibar coach replaces Joan Francesc Ferrer 'Rubi', signing for one season.
Gaizka Garitano will take over as coach at Valladolid for the 2015-16 season, signing a one year contract
Garitano, who turns 40 on Thursday, takes over from Joan Francesc Ferrer 'Rubi', who failed to win promotion to the top flight, despite reaching the play-offs.
The new Valladolid coach spent almost his entire career at Eibar, where he managed two consecutive promotions to take the club to the Primera for the first time in its history. He resigned after failing to keep the Basque club up, finishing 18th when results on the final day of last season went against them. (Eibar may in the end stay up as Elche are likely to be relegated for their financial situation during last season.)
According to a statement from Valladolid, Gaizka appealed to the club for his character and the competitive football played by his teams.
