BARCELONA | DI MARÍA
Di María would pay Real 10 million euros for Barça move
The player agreed to a clause stating he’d stump up the cash if he came back to La Liga; Barcelona would foot the bill, taking the price to 85 million euros.
The name of Ángel di María rang out like a shot in the Barcelona election campaign, with newspaper Sport saying yesterday his signing was a possibility. Today there are figures: around 85 million euros.
Despite have a pretty dire season and not being much to Van Gaal’s tastes, Manchester United aren’t keen to write down an asset that cost them 75 million euros (plus 15 in add-ons) from Real Madrid a year ago. So they’ve put a price of those 75 million on the Argentine’s head.
But the overall cost to bring the player to the Camp Nou would nudge up to 85 million, because when Di María left the Bernabéu he agreed to a clause saying he’d compensate Real Madrid with 10 million euros if he came back to the Spanish league. That means PSG has an easier route to his signature. A move to City or Chelsea, while not sparking the 10 million euro clause, seems unlikely with Manchester United not wishing to allow their Premier rivals to strengthen.
The English press meanwhile have focused on the story, and discovered a possible link to Leo Messi. The star striker has supposedly asked the club to bring in his friend and teammate with Argentina, while Luis Enrique has also asked the club to look at bringing him to Catalonia.
Di María’s agent has admitted there has been contact with Barcelona, but said there was “nothing serious”. Watch this space.
