Real manage to remember Santiago Bernabéu for VIP party
Despite having not held the trophy in his honour last year, and being yet to organise it for this summer the club will pay tribute to the Real legend at this evening’s event.
This evening the Santiago Bernabéu is hosting the latest edition of Real’s end of season ‘Area VIP’ party. This year, with it being the 60th anniversary of the creation of the European Cup, the event is dedicated to the world’s biggest club competition, of which Madrid is the undisputed king, with 10 titles.
The invition reads as follows: “60 years ago in Paris, Gabriel Hanot and Santiago Bernabéu created the world’s most important continental club competition: the European Cup, the White Cup. This year we want to pay tribute to that moment at an event in which we hope to count on your presence”.
It’s notable that Madrid executives have remembered the club’s outstanding president for this event, yet have failed to organise a date for the game in his honour: the Bernabéu Trophy. A match that had been celebrated every year for 35 years, until the club decided not to organise it last year. This year, so far, priority has been given to a money-spinning game in Norway the week before the League is due to start.
Still, looking at the August calendar there are still days available when it could be held. It just needs the club’s bosses to decide they want to. What’s certain is that this evening the invited VIPs will see the club honour their legendary president.
