Real Sociedad interested in Porto's Diego Reyes
The Portuguese club want the Mexican international to leave this summer to get more match action. PSV Eindhoven are also interested.
Diego Antonio Reyes. The name of the centre-back chosen by Real Sociedad to strengthen their defence, according to Noticias de Gipuzkoa. The 22-year-old Mexican plays for Porto and La Real hope to sign him for next season. Contact has already been made with the Portuguese club, coached by Julen Lopetegi, and the management of the two clubs already have a healthy relationship.
Diego Reyes arrived at Porto in 2013 after competing in the Olympic Games in London as the captain of the Mexico side. He arrived in Portugal as a youngster but did not get too many minutes owing to early problems adapting to lift in Europe, something which is normal for some South American players. However, he went to the World Cup with the Mexico senior side last summer, giving him good experience. He is a fast player and strong in the air. Dutch club PSV Eindhoven are amongst other European clubs who are also interested in the player.
Porto’s intention is to give the player more match action given how little he plays. He would gain more match action and that chance could be given to him this summer. He needs to play competitive football as well as simply train. There has been a strong interest from PSV in recent months and the future of the player is expected to be concluded in the coming weeks. The player has also been called-up to represent Mexico in the Gold Cup, meaning he will lose some of his pre-season with Porto.
The decision will be taken between Porto, the player and his agent. Porto will decide if he leaves on loan and then Reyes must decide which team, whether it be in Spain, Europe or South America.
