Celtic interested in taking Ødegaard on loan
Celtic coach Ronny Deila knows the teenager from their time together at Strømsgodset; Celtic’s Champions.
Martin Ødegaard will spend the new season out on loan to gain experience and Celti, who will be taking part in the Champions League, could be the ideal place for him to do just that.
The 16-year-old midfielder will take part in Madrid’s summer tours of Australia and China but after that, he will be farmed out on loan for the rest of the season. Neither the player nor the club think it a good idea for him to continue festering in the Second Division B with Castilla and Rafa Benítez is also open to loaning Ødegaard out. Now the club is looking for the best destination.
There is no shortage of clubs willing to take the player in Spain; Málaga, Villarreal and Betis are open to the idea but a better option could be Celtic, managed by Ronny Deila, who was Ødegaard’s coach at Strømsgodset. Deila is close to the player’s family and encouraged him to join Madrid during the January window. Joining Celtic on loan would also give Ødegaard the possibility of gaining experience in the Champions League with the Scottish champions.
