REAL MADRID | DE GEA
Benzema sale would accelerate de Gea’s arrival
De Gea and his advisors are convinced that United will eventually concede defeat in their attempt to keep him at Old Trafford.
Real Madrid are keen on David de Gea but Manchester United are doing what they can to stop the keeper from quitting Old Trafford this summer. However, the sale of Karim Benzema to Louis van Gaal’s side would not only boost Madrid’s coffers but also serve to accelerate De Gea’s move to the Bernabéu.
The Spain international has already said his farewell’s to United’s coaching staff and through his agent Jorge Mendes, has informed the board of his desire to sign for Madrid. The reply from United was unequivocal: the keeper is not for sale and as far as the club is concerned, he is expected to honour the final year of his contract.
De Gea is contractually bound to United until June 2016; if the club wants to cash in on him, they would be better selling him at a profit this summer rather than allow him to leave on a free next year. But despite that dilemma, United officials are keen to see the goalkeeper stay on for the final year on his contract – even if it means losing a cash windfall.
The asking price for de Gea will be somewhere around the 30 million euro mark, plus performance-related add-ons. The player feels sure that United will eventually buckle and let him return to the capital but it’s probably Karim Benzema who holds the key to that happening.
