Contador wins the 2015 Giro, his seventh grand tour victory
The rider from Pinto arrived at the finish line in Milan with the pink jersey. He shared the podium with Fabio Aru and Mikel Landa. Iljo Keisse won the final stage.
Iljo Keisse won the closing stage of the 2015 Giro d’Italia. The Belgian Etixx rider and Australian Luka Dunbridge, who track riders, challenged the peloton just short of the 32 kilometre mark and led the break which ultimately gave Keisse victory.
Eyes immediately turned to the pink jersey of Alberto Contador, however, who secured his second Giro crown and his seventh grand tour victory. The cyclist from Pinto, already amongst the greatest riders in history, is now tied with the great Miguel Idurain and Fausto Coppi with seven titles and he is just behind Jacques Anquetil (8), Bernard Hinault (10) and Eddy Merckx (11).
Contador shared the podium with Fabio Aru and Mikel Landa, two young cyclists from Astana, the strongest team in the tour. With hardly any time to recover, the Madrid rider will prepare for his assault on the Tour de France. Only seven riders have managed to double up the Giro and the Tour and nobody has achieved the feat since Marco Pantani in 1998.
