Raúl: “Ancelotti has done a really good job”
The former Real Madrid player said the fans should give thanks to the recently sacked coach.
Raúl González, currently playing as a striker for New York Cosmos, said “nobody can deny that Ancelotti has done a really good job” as coach of Real Madrid, the player’s former club and where he forged his legend as a goal scorer. Ancelotti was sacked this week after failing to land any end of season trophies, despite having a year left on his contract and having won the European Cup last year.
Raúl, who along with David Villa has been named as Spanish Liga Ambassador, said in an interview with the Liga that the Italian coach had brought the European Cup back “after so many years” and that he had won the “affection and respect of the players and the fans”.
“I think that he should be thanked for the great work he’s done” said the Madrid born striker, who said the club now had to look for the “best solution”. That is, “the ideal person who can achieve more titles with the team.”
“Every time the season finishes and no titles have been won it’s always difficult, with changes of coaches and changes of players, but that’s normal in a club as big as Real Madrid”, said Raúl.
Overall the New York Cosmos striker said it hadn’t been a bad year, but at Real Madrid “if you don’t win titles, it sort of has been”.
