UOL Esporte: Barça tie up Gérson for January 2016
According to the Brazilian website the Catalan club have reached an agreement with the player and Fluminense which will take effect once the FIFA ban is over.
“Gérson will be Neymar and Messi’s team-mate in 2016” says Brazilian website ‘UOL Esporte’. According to their sources Barcelona have stumped up three million euros to Fluminense to acquire a right to be first to have the chance to purchase the player, in order to sign him in 2016. If the signing goes ahead, Barcelona expect to pay around 20 million euros, though Fluminense are asking for 30 million euros.
UOL Esporte say that Barça have used the agreement to steal a march on other European sides who are looking eagerly at the player, such as Juventus. Barça’s idea is to complete the deal in January, when FIFA’s transfer ban, for irregularities in the signing of under-age players, is over.
Asked about the agreement Fluminense, who have serious economic problems, said the club didn’t discuss on-going negotiations.
Gérson, who turned 18 last week, is a skilful midfielder. He shone in the South American Under-20 tournament and has played 15 first team games this season, scoring four goals. He’s under contract until 2019, and is seen in Brazil as one of the country’s most promising players.
