Cristiano Ronaldo registered his eighth hat trick of the season on the final day against Getafe to equal the all-time Spanish league record of eight held by Leo Messi. It was the 31st time that Ronaldo has scored three goals or more in one game – pulling him level with Telmo Zarra and one behind Messi, who holds the Spanish league record with 32.
His first half clutch of goals at the Bernabéu last night also allowed him to set a new personal best for goals in one season. He improves on the 60 goals he scored, in all competitions, during the 2011/12 season – his tally for this season is 61: League (48), Champions League (10), European Super Cup (2) and Copa del Rey (1).
The Madrid number 7 has also bettered his personal figures in the domestic league, setting a new best of 48, an improvement on the 46 he scored in 2011-12 (he scored 40 in 2010-11, 34 in 2012-13, 31 in 2013-14 and in his first season in Spain (2009-2010).
It means that Ronaldo will collect this year's 'Pichichi' award for ending as the top scorer in the Liga BBVA and also the ESM Golden Shoe as Europe's top marksman for a record fourth time.
